Special Interest Groups (SIGs)

Welcome to the MedEdWorld Special Interest Groups (SIGs). This section of MedEdWorld  provides a facility for individuals with an interest in a specific aspect of education in the health care professions to engage in discussion and share information and ideas with others with a similar interest. Some groups have open access and others are by invitation only. AMEE members can initiate new SIGs by contacting [email protected] with details of the SIG such as title, description, educational area and the type of access to be permitted (open access or invitation only).

To contribute to a group discussion register as a user on MedEdWorld for FREE or join AMEE as a member.

SIG posts are regularly monitored.  Any posts that are considered to be libellous, slanderous or offensive will be removed.  MedEdWorld asks users to report inappropriate comments either by clicking on the ‘report abuse’ button at the bottom of each SIG post or the ‘Contact/Report abuse’ button in the left menu.

Sociology Core Curriculum NOW AVAILABLE!!
We are delighted to announce the launch of the Core Curriculum for Sociology in UK Undergraduate Medical Education.

This Core Curriculum for Sociology has been a truly collaborative effort involving social science academics and teachers as well as doctors, patients, students and members of the public. We sincerely hope that the Core Curriculum for Sociology in Undergraduate Medical Education will prove to be a useful guide for individuals and groups involved at all levels of medical education. Our aim is to consolidate the position and status of Sociology and its contribution to the medical profession. Our goal is to ensure that teachers (academics and researchers) are well supported and importantly that students have the best grounding ahead of their service to patients, communities and populations. We want to ensure that these goals and the resources to support them are well publicised. To support this, we have sent hard copies of the guide to each medical school in the UK and to the GMC and HEA.

An e-version of the Core Curriculum for Sociology in Undergraduate Medical Education is available on our new website http://www.besst.info.

Please take a look at the website - it is a live, dynamic area to which we can all contribute. You will also find an e-version of the psychology core curriculum there. The website is a resource for generating collective themed information about issues, resources and solutions related to Social Science Teaching in Medical Education. The website contains contact details and more info about BeSST and its networks.

We welcome you to distribute news of this launch and invitation to the BeSST website amongst your networks
