The course is aimed at undergraduate and postgraduate medical educators who wish to broaden their knowledge and understanding of specific areas of assessment. Participants should have a fundamental grounding in assessment principles and practices.

This course will provide advanced coverage of assessment principles and methodologies in medical education.
The course is aimed at undergraduate and postgraduate medical educators who wish to broaden their knowledge and understanding of specific areas of assessment. Participants should have a fundamental grounding in assessment principles and practices.
The course will include interactive lectures and workshops. Participants will have the opportunity to attend 5 workshops, during which they will be able to explore areas of their particular interest. Reading lists and further references will be provided.
Plenarys’ include;
- Plenary 1 – Assessment: the evidence from the literature Prof Cees van der Vleuten, University of Maastricht;
- Plenary 2 – Modern perspectives on Test Validity Prof Steven Downing, UIC;
- Plenary 3 – Online Testing: State of the Art Dr David Swanson, NBME;
- Plenary 4 – Horizon Scanning: future issues and challenges in assessment Prof Cees van der Vleuten, University of Maastricht.
Participants are also invited to attend 5 workshops of their choice. A full list or workshops is available on the course website.
