The 1st International Conference on Research and Training in Health Professionals Education ICON RIPE 2012 took place from the 17 – 19 February 2012 and was sponsored by the Medical Council of India.
The Conference was organised and hosted by KLE University’s Department Education for Health Professionals (UDEHP) who are devoted to continuing academic education and knowledge transfer. This department has the unique distinction of starting a Master’s program in Health Profession Education (MHPE) with academic input from the University of Illinois; Chicago, USA.

The Conference was organised and hosted by KLE University’s Department Education for Health Professionals (UDEHP) who are devoted to continuing academic education and knowledge transfer. The first batch of students enrolled in this program presented their thesis at ICON RIPE 2012 adding a unique flavour to the conference deliberations. The students focused on health science education and had an opportunity to exchange their views with the internationally known educational reformers who have come as Resource Persons, for this conference with variety of topics i.e. “Problem-Based Learning: WHAT, WHY, HOW", "What can Mindfulness do for Health Professions Students: Issues of Quality of Life and Patient Care", "Achieving the Mandate: Preparing Researchers and Promoting Research Integrity", "Lessons from Educational Psychology on Testing, Spacing, and Mixed Practice -Implications for Practice and Research.", "Current scenario on Health Professions Education in India", "Role of mentoring in medical education", "Challenges in Curriculum Development: 100 Years after Flexner", "Reflective practice: the key to unlock Continuing Professional Development", "Methods to monitor high stakes performance assessments for health professionals.", Outcome Based Teaching-Learning (OBTL).
