This training course is aim at beginners who wish to familiarise themselves with the basic concepts of Research. During the course students will create a Research Proposal under the direct supervision of facilitators. Each participant is free to choose topic of their choice for their research, whether cross sectional study or Randomized Control Trial, and will be assisted in finalising this research paper to the standard of those published in middle to high ranked journals.

A study showing that training can help GPs to provide a better death for patients is highlighted in the BMJ (2012; 344:e881). The national Council for Palliative Care has produced a training package for GP’s to build their confidence in talking with patients about and preparing for death. The package, ‘How Long Have I Got Doc’, is based on real life scenarios. Before undertaking the training, 45% of 113 GP’s said that they did not feel confident in talking to patients about death and dying, and after the four month programme 94% of the GPs said that they felt confident.

This year the SDRME Summer Meeting will celebrate the 25th Anniversary of SDRME.
The meeting will feature:
- A ceremony recognising 25 years of SDRME;
- Keynote speaker Carol Aschenbrener, MD, Chief Medical Education Officer, AAMC. Her talk will include AAMC updates relevant to SDRME;
- Presentations on evolution and future of medical education offices; research methods; and journal editors and reviewers;
- Presentations of SDRME invited reviews;
- Networking and opportunities to discuss potential research collaborations.

This course will provide advanced coverage of assessment principles and methodologies in medical education.
The course is aimed at undergraduate and postgraduate medical educators who wish to broaden their knowledge and understanding of specific areas of assessment. Participants should have a fundamental grounding in assessment principles and practices.
The title for this year’s 2012 WGEA/WGSA/WOSR AAMC Western Regional Conference is, Collaborative Communities in Medical Education.
The conference will provide an opportunity to share ideas on new innovations in teaching and learning and perspectives on interconnected communities.
