This month a themed issue of The Lancet (Vol 379, Issue 9818, March 2012) focuses on health system reform in China as the country strives to achieve comprehensive universal health coverage by 2020.
This issue follows on from the series on health system reform in China, published by the Lancet in 2008.
The issue summarises that important advances have been made in achieving equal access to services and insurance coverage across Chinese regions. However as China moves towards this goal reductions in health care expenses do not seem forthcoming.

The 1st International Conference on Research and Training in Health Professionals Education ICON RIPE 2012 took place from the 17 – 19 February 2012 and was sponsored by the Medical Council of India.
The Conference was organised and hosted by KLE University’s Department Education for Health Professionals (UDEHP) who are devoted to continuing academic education and knowledge transfer. This department has the unique distinction of starting a Master’s program in Health Profession Education (MHPE) with academic input from the University of Illinois; Chicago, USA.
This symposium has been organised to provide a forum for researchers, educators, and others interested in the role of arts, humanities and social sciences perspectives in health professional education. Clinical and medical educators, students, practitioners, creative writers and artists, and scholars from different humanities disciplines, are invited to participate in a day-long conversation focused on exploring a diversity of narrative and reflective practices across the continuum of learning, including inter-professional learning.

The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) has released details of revisions to the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT). The revisions will be implemented in 2015 and the exams content and format are described in a, "Preview Guide for the MCAT2015", made available on the AAMC website. In this guide the conceptual framework of the new exam is organised around Foundational Concepts, Content Categories, and Scientific Inquiry and Reasoning Skills.
The first international Conference on Medical Education Informatics (MEI2012) will take place from Friday 6 to Saturday 7 April 2012.
MedEdWorld currently offers members across the globe a wide range of services including; news on developments in the field of medical education, course and conference information, a resource database and special interest groups (SIG’s) and forums. These services have provided a gateway through which those interested in medical education can learn, connect, and debate.

The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) have announced major changes to how medical residency programs will be accredited in the U.S by adopting a new system, the Next Accreditation System (NAS). These changes are summarised in a special report published in the February 22, 2012 online edition of the New England Journal of Medicine.
