University of Antwerp offers 3 Master’s degree programmes in English

Professor appointed to Chair independent review on the Shape of Medical Training in the UK

Professor David Greenaway, Vice-Chancellor of Nottingham University, has been appointed to lead a major independent review of UK postgraduate medical education and training. The Shape of Medical Training is an independent review that will shape the way doctors are trained in the UK to ensure they are equipped to meet the changing needs of patients, society and health services.

Generous grant allows University of Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine to offer free online, environmental medicine course.

A generous grant from the Blackstone Ranch Institute has allowed The University of Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine to develop, deliver, and evaluate a new, online, interactive course on environmental medicine, a topic rarely covered in medical school.

Call for abstracts from potential presenters with new and creative ideas suitable for the Research and Teaching Forum

The American Academy on Communication in Healthcare (AACH) have circulated a call for abstracts. Presenters with new and creative ideas for the Research and Teaching Forum, taking place from 12 – 14 October 2012, are invited to submit abstracts by 1 April 2012. The 2012 AACH Research and Teaching Forum will feature research on communication in healthcare, scholarly presentations on teaching communication in healthcare, workshops on research or teaching methods, and special interest group discussion on topics in healthcare communication and relationship-centered care.

China themed issue published by The Lancet as part of the Global Health Series

This month a themed issue of The Lancet (Vol 379, Issue 9818, March 2012) focuses on health system reform in China as the country strives to achieve comprehensive universal health coverage by 2020. This issue follows on from the series on health system reform in China, published by the Lancet in 2008. The issue summarises that important advances have been made in achieving equal access to services and insurance coverage across Chinese regions. However as China moves towards this goal reductions in health care expenses do not seem forthcoming.

ICON RIPE shares e-souvenir from 1st international conference

The 1st International Conference on Research and Training in Health Professionals Education ICON RIPE 2012 took place from the 17 – 19 February 2012 and was sponsored by the Medical Council of India. The Conference was organised and hosted by KLE University’s Department Education for Health Professionals (UDEHP) who are devoted to continuing academic education and knowledge transfer. This department has the unique distinction of starting a Master’s program in Health Profession Education (MHPE) with academic input from the University of Illinois; Chicago, USA.

Clinical and medical educators, students, practitioners, creative writers and artists, and scholars from different humanities disciplines, are invited to participate in a day-long conversation focused on exploring a diversity of narrative and reflective practices across the continuum of learning, including inter-professional learning.
