The Dying Matters Coalition launches DVD to boost GPs' confidence in end of life conversations

A study showing that training can help GPs to provide a better death for patients is highlighted in the BMJ (2012; 344:e881). The national Council for Palliative Care has produced a training package for GP’s to build their confidence in talking with patients about and preparing for death. The package, ‘How Long Have I Got Doc’, is based on real life scenarios. Before undertaking the training, 45% of 113 GP’s said that they did not feel confident in talking to patients about death and dying, and after the four month programme 94% of the GPs said that they felt confident.

2012 SDRME Summer Meeting

This year the SDRME Summer Meeting will celebrate the 25th Anniversary of SDRME. The meeting will feature: - A ceremony recognising 25 years of SDRME; - Keynote speaker Carol Aschenbrener, MD, Chief Medical Education Officer, AAMC. Her talk will include AAMC updates relevant to SDRME; - Presentations on evolution and future of medical education offices; research methods; and journal editors and reviewers; - Presentations of SDRME invited reviews; - Networking and opportunities to discuss potential research collaborations.

St. George’s Advanced Assessment Course

This course will provide advanced coverage of assessment principles and methodologies in medical education. The course is aimed at undergraduate and postgraduate medical educators who wish to broaden their knowledge and understanding of specific areas of assessment. Participants should have a fundamental grounding in assessment principles and practices.

Medical Educator Fellowship

The International Association of Medical Science Educators (IAMSE) is pleased to offer the Medical Educator Fellowship. The Fellowship is composed of three phases that can be completed in 3 years. Phase 1 consists of the currently offered Essential Skills in Medical Education (ESME) program. The ESME program is offered several times a year at the AMEE Conference, Ottawa Conference and the Annual IAMSE Conferences.
