The success AMEE's ESME courses has encouraged the development of two ESME courses as online distance learning courses. Both courses will begin 10 September 2012.

The highly successful AMEE Essential Skills in Medical Education (ESME) courses have been offered around the world by AMEE since 2005.

The success of these courses has encouraged AMEE to develop the original ESME course and a more advanced ESME Leadership course as online distance learning courses. Offered for the first time in 2012 both courses will begin on the 10th of September 2012.

The ESME Online course evolves around the increasing professionalisation of medical education and the need for teachers in the health professions to have training in teaching. While many institutions worldwide offer Diploma and Masters courses in medical education, there is a lack of accredited basic level courses.

The ESME programme has been designed to meet the need for an entry level teaching qualification. ESME Online will be of particular interest to teachers who are engaging with medical education for the first time, or who have been given some new responsibilities or assignment relating to teaching. The programme may also appeal to the more experienced researcher as a refresher course.

The ESME Programme is accredited by AMEE and designed around a set of competencies that all practising teachers should possess. Those who have previously completed an ESME course and wish to continue developing their skills may be interested in ESME Leadership Online, a new course offered for the first time in 2012. This course will run for 8-weeks also beginning on the 10th of September 2012.
