Mary Higgins is a Consultant Obstetrician/Maternal-Fetal Medicine Subspecialist in the National Maternity Hospital and an Associate Professor in University College Dublin. She is an active and enthusiastic researcher and educator.


Mary Higgins graduated from University College Dublin (UCD), trained in Obstetrics and Gynecology in Ireland followed by sub-speciality training in Canada. She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland, the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and the Academy of Medical Educators. Mary was awarded a MSc (University of Oxford) and a MD by research (UCD). As a Principal Investigator in UCD Perinatal Research Centre she has more than 100 publications and supervises PhD, MD and MSc students. Mary is a ministerial appointee to the Slaintecare Medical Advisory Council, an active member of the National Perinatal Morbidity Centre committee on Severe Maternal Morbidity and an advocate for women’s health. Mary is an elected Fellow and Censor on the RCPI Council. She recently completed a Diploma in Entrepreneurial Education and undaunted by the return to medical education theory, is currently completing a Master’s in Medical Education.
